First, gather around a table to distribute the cards. However, once the roles have been assigned, the game will take place during your evening\u2014during appetizers, on the patio, in the kitchen, or while dining. Killer Wink is not played around the table but serves as a backdrop to your evening.<\/p>\n

You will either be an assassin or an investigator. There should be roughly 1 assassin for every 3 investigators. This means you can play with anywhere from 4 to 16 players. The assassins will know each other and thus know who the investigators are, but the investigators will not know who the assassins are among the players.<\/p>\n

Take a number of \"Assassin\" and \"Investigator\" cards based on the number of players, ensuring there is one card per player and maintaining the ratio of one assassin to three investigators. If the ratio isn\u2019t exact, favor having one additional assassin. For example, with 7 players, use 2 assassins and 5 investigators.<\/p>\n

Shuffle the selected cards and deal them to the players. Each player may look at their card but must not show it to anyone else. In the latest version of the game, each card represents a character. Tell the players that they are not allowed to say the name of their character, as experienced players might already know who the assassins are and could identify them too easily.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

However, cunning assassins hide among the guests, determined to stain this elegant evening with mystery and blood.<\/p>\n

The grand parlor, adorned with dark drapes and delicate chandeliers, becomes the stage for the first crime. Amid this sophisticated setting, investigators roam, unaware of the hidden knives and concealed poisons.<\/p>\n

As the night progresses, the assassins seek moments of solitude with their targets, hiding their weapons in the shadows. On the terrace near the gardens, investigators ponder the mysteries, oblivious to the shifting shadows under the moonlight.<\/p>\n

The tension peaks with the discovery of a third body in the stables. Miss Abigail Thornton nearly faints\u2014unless her sudden collapse is a calculated act.<\/p>\n

Investigators gather their courage and examine the evidence left by the victims, revealing the weapons used in the crimes.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, the barn near the wine press catches fire, adding to the chaos. The flames cast eerie shadows, highlighting the distrustful gazes of the guests.<\/p>\n

As a final desperate attempt to uncover the culprits unfolds, death strikes again near the fountain.<\/p>\n

Each player knows their role as defined by their card, which they keep secret. Assassins are part of the same team and must recognize one another, but they must remain hidden from the investigators.<\/p>\n

Ask all players, including yourself, to close their eyes and cover them with their hands. No cheating, as it would ruin the game! Then, ask the assassins to open their eyes. They will see who among the players has their eyes open, identifying their teammates. After a few moments, instruct the assassins to cover their eyes again, and then ask everyone to open their eyes.<\/p>\n

Now, the assassins know their allies and their targets\u2014the investigators they will attempt to eliminate during the game.<\/p>\n

This requires patience and timing, as the assassins should act when the group\u2019s attention is elsewhere or when they feel unobserved.<\/p>\n

Of course, investigators are not allowed to take the assassins\u2019 weapons. However, they may go and check the weapons from time to time and count them to help with their investigation. For example, if a player doesn\u2019t notice the poison or the bomb aimed at them, it\u2019s their role to remind everyone that the player has been eliminated. At any time, an Investigator may loudly announce \u201cJudgment\u201d to declare to everyone that they have unmasked an Assassin. The Investigator then names the accused player, who must reveal whether they are an Assassin or an Investigator. If the accused player is indeed an Assassin, they are eliminated and the game continues with the remaining Assassins; if the accused player declares that they are not an Assassin, then the accusing Investigator is eliminated instead. <\/p>\n

In all cases, the eliminated player may no longer speak about the game to the other players. <\/p>\n

In that case, even if the accused player is actually a detective, they are still eliminated, as they are considered an assassin by the \"Master Sleuth\". The \"Master Sleuth\" then loses their \"Right to Mistake\" but can continue playing. \"Rights to Mistake\" cannot be accumulated.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

The game ends if all assassins are exposed and eliminated. The winning investigator is the one who uncovered the most assassins.<\/p>\n

The Assassins win the game when only one Investigator remains alive whose identity is still secret (not counting those who were mistakenly accused during a Judgment). In this situation, it would be too easy for that Investigator to deduce and unmask all the Assassins. Therefore, the last remaining Investigator is eliminated, and as a good sport, they announce themselves that they were the final Investigator alive and that they escape from the Manor of Sombreval.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

For Assassins:\nBe discreet and patient. Don\u2019t panic.\nTake your time collecting weapons, acting only when the moment is right. Strike in the shadows or during moments of distraction or group excitement. Avoid drawing attention to your movements, especially after a kill. They do this by showing their weapons and declaring, \"You are hypnotized.\" The investigator must then take a revolver and eliminate the first player they encounter. Afterward, they must \"commit suicide\" with the revolver.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

You are all assassins, but also all detectives. Do not hand out any character cards. Instead, shuffle the weapons in a small bag and have each player draw one weapon\u2014or two if there are fewer than ten players. Each player keeps their weapons secret. The goal of the game is to be the last survivor in the manor.<\/p>\n

You can eliminate players in two ways: either by assassinating them with your weapon, or by accusing an assassin after a murder. When a player is killed, the surviving players may call a \"Judgment\" to accuse someone of committing the murder. If the accusation is correct, the assassin is eliminated. If the accusation is wrong, the player who made the accusation is eliminated instead. If no one accuses, or if the assassin is not exposed, they may reveal themselves and claim the weapon of their victim. If the victim no longer had a weapon, the assassin may draw from the bag or take an already used weapon.<\/p>\n

This very dynamic variant lets everyone be assassins while still keeping the requirement to kill with discretion.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
